For vestalis noir as promised

Here are is a pic of my hens as requested:

And if you're wondering what they're rubber necking at check out this picture, look closely:

Is that a snake you can see? Why yes, yes it is. To be more precise that is a very angry, rather large, very venomous tiger snake I almost stood on (hence the angry part) whilst trying to get a good angle for the hen pic. You're welcome ;)
I live in Australia. We have venomous snakes in our house yard. And the car shed. (and once rather memorably in the grapevine.....but that's a story for another day)
But we have windmills and pretty days too:

Also to all the north americans who freak out over our numerous poisonous spiders and snakes, I would like to point out: I can take on a spider or snake with a shovel. I'd like to see you try that with a grizzly bear. I think I've won that argument. Mind you I've never actually tried to take on a grizzly bear with a shovel.....maybe it's easier then it would at first appear?
But seriously snake vs bear? Give me the snake every time.
Vanessa

  1. I would rather the bear any day. I have a huge (irrational i know) phobia of snakes. Just seeing that picture, I think i won't be able to sleep tonight :p

    1. Ummmm sorry? At least you didn't nearly step on him, and he's still around here somewhere so you're not likely to run into him anytime soon ;)

  2. Love, love these pics! We have lots of snakes and scorpions where I live, but fortunately, I live in a more developed area so I don't get them at my house or anything.

    1. Glad you like them :) We have lots of spiders, redbacks are pretty tiny and you just flick them off of whatever they're on. The big huntsmen and wolf spiders are scary looking but they aren't venomous-so you know I just ignore them LOL

  3. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! And you risked your life too. So cool. Do they have names? Have you always had lots of pets? Where I'm from there are venomous snakes, black bears, alligators, and mosquitoes.
Sorry that I've been MIA lately. But I still have been keeping up with your blog, no worries.

    1. No problems ;) No they don't have names they are referred to in the collective as 'the chooks' as in: 'have you fed the chooks?', or 'where are the chooks?' and 'those bloody chooks have been in the garden again!'. Yeah I've always had heaps of pets-orphan calves, lambs and even a wombat and a puppy once. I have a convoy of soppy sheep with silly names knocking around, like 'the tangerine machine', 'fuzz face' and, very original I know, 'Lambie no1' and 'Lambie no 2'. So yeah I have lots of critters :)
